Blu-ray Versus Hd-dvd – Battle Of Titans

If you’re old enough to remember back in the days video tape movie rentals, you may be aware that there was a battle between the Betamax format and the VHS format. Betamax was Sony’s entry into the video tape standard war, while many other vendors adopted the VHS standard. As is inevitable in all battles like this for standards only one will come out on top. Consumer simply don’t want to deal with two different standards to watch the same.

In the case of the videotape wars, VHS came out on top in became the standard viewing format for many years. That is until be DVD format became the standard. The latest battle in the standard tour was between high-definition standards for DVD discs. In this war there were two main combatants, the HD DVD standard introduced a Toshiba in the Blu-Ray standard introduced by Sony. It had been many years Sony lost the Betamax war with a host of other vendors but that obviously didn’t keep them from entering a similar battle when it came to establish a standard for HD DVD.

In this case Sony’s Blu-Ray standard, after about two years of competing standards with the HD DVD format, officially came out top Toshiba announced they were giving up production of their HD DVD players. It’s an interesting thing watching these standards war play out. They often have as much to do with technology as they do with marketing. The fact of the matter is your average consumer watching a Toshiba HD DVD in a Sony Blu-Ray DVD side by side will not notice much difference.

So perhaps learning something from their loss in the videotape war with their Betamax format, Sony put their marketing machine in high gear and pulled out all the stops to establish their Blu-Ray standard as the industry-standard for high def DVDs. The stakes in these types of battles are enormous. Imagine having an entire market of DVD players and no competitors. In some sense it’s a monopoly, but it’s a monopoly hard won through fair and square business battle. And once you’ve been a battle like that it’s difficult to impossible for a competitor coming up with new technology and take over, unless of course that technology leapfrogs your technology. It would have to be something like when DVDs took over from VHS videotapes to start a new battle for standards.

This wil
1000
l undoubtedly happen at some point and we will get to watch from the sidelines as these giant corporations battle for ownership of the new industry-standard. It’s serious business with billions and billions of dollars at stake. And it’s also fascinating to watch.

Should You Get The Panasonic Tc-p50g10 Or The Tc-p50s1?

HDTV models of the same brand usually carry the same features. They still have some key differences, though, which can greatly affect your decision to buy it or not, like in the case of the Panasonic TC-P50G10 and the Panasonic TC-P50S1 Plasma HDTV models.

In terms of design, both the Panasonic TC-P50G10 and the Panasonic TC-P50S1 look impressive enough to stand apart from the sea of HDTVs. They both have hidden speakers and glossy black frames accentuated with a thin silver strip at the bottom. The similarity ends there, though, as the Panasonic TC-P50S1 has more rounded edges while the TC-P50G10 has a fading silver wash and a very thin frame. The frame of the TC-P50G10, in fact, is one of the thinnest produced by Panasonic. While they both have non-swiveling black stands, the TC-P50G10 comes with a round one while the TC-P50S1 comes with the usual rectangular.

In terms of picture quality, the TC-P50G10 and the TC-P50S1 both produce deep black levels, excellent shadow detail and saturated colors in the default mode. However, the TC-P50G10 has an extra mode, the THX mode, which, when enabled, results in even better images with better shadow detail and greater color accuracy. The only problem with this THX mode is its low light output, but it still does well in recreating the visual ambience of a movie theatre.

Connectivity-wise, the Panasonic TC-P50S1 has an adequate number of inputs and outputs with three HDMI ports and an SD card slot which allows you to share your pictures more easily with your friends. On the other hand, the TC-P50G10 offers more extensive connectivity options. Aside from the three HDMI ports and the SD card slot, it also comes with an analog audio output, a VGA port so you can plug in your computer and use your HDTV as the monitor, and a LAN port for the Viera Cast feature.

As for features, the Panasonic TC-P50G10 and the Panasonic TC-P50S1 each have their share of great ones. Both come with the Viera Link, one of the newest features made by Panasonic, which allows you to control your DVD recorder, Blu-ray player, surround sound speakers and other compatible devices remotely, sparing you the inconvenience of getting around and turning them all on and off one by one. Both models also have a game mode for gamers, an anti-reflective filter to
1000
prevent you from getting distracted when watching and a pixel orbiter to prevent screen burn-in.

One thing that makes the TC-P50G10 a cut above the TC-P50S1 is the Viera Cast feature, an even newer feature made by Panasonic. The Viera Cast feature allows you to enjoy online content even without a computer, from sites such as YouTube, Amazon, Picasa and others. This is because the TC-P50G10 has a built-in user friendly web interface and an ethernet port as mentioned earlier, though you can only enjoy this feature if you are subscribed to an internet connection.

It is also worth noting that the TC-P50G10 and the TC-P50S1 are more energy efficient than most Plasma televisions, although they are still far behind their LCD counterparts in this area. Both come with a NEO PDP panel while the TC-P50S1 comes with an Energy Star 3.0 rating – something it owes to the low light output of its default picture setting. The TC-P50G10 has an ECO menu which allows you to turn off certain functions automatically, as well.

Indeed, both the Panasonic TC-P50G10 and the Panasonic TC-P50S1 are excellent choices with a number of similarities. They both even have price tags that are not that different from each other. Still, the Panasonic TC-P50G10 clearly has a few more perks, which makes it worth the few extra hundreds and clearly one of the best HDTVs released by Panasonic so far.

Samsung Ln46a650 46-inch 1080p 120hz Lcd Hdtv

So you’re ready to make the jump to HDTV but have no idea where to start? Which will it be, Plasma or LCD. Like just about everyone else making a major purchase like this, I agonized for the past few months over PLASMA vs. LCD, SONY or SAMSUNG, 120hz Vs 60hz. Every time my family and I went to a store to view the various TV options first hand, the picture on the Samsung LNa650 and LNa750 were just mind blowing and clearly standout from all the other TVs LCD or Plasma. So then the debate narrowed down to do we purchase the 650 or 750, since the price was so close and the subwoofer, speaker placement and DNLA compliance and slightly faster processing were nice additional features. In the end we opted to purchase the 650, as the reports and pictures of the halo effect from the 750’s bezel frame when viewing the TV in the dark was of concern to us and would have certainly bothered us, although some people are not bothered by it at all.

The TV speaker sound is not as bad as some report in other reviews as long as you tweak the equalizer settings under the custom audio options and is absolutely acceptable once tweaked, at least when stand mounted like we have ours(speakers are in the rear of TV, and mounted on a wall, that could be the problem for some, idk?). That being said I have a SONY HT-CT100 Sound Bar hooked up via HDMI and it really looks sleek and sounds awesome as well (and was dirt cheap and very well reviewed by the pros and I would highly recommend it for it’s sound and multi HDMI connectivity for the inexpensive price) so even though the sound is certainly acceptable from the TV alone, it’s a non issue.

I have had no shut off issues, Samsung LN46A650 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV shipped with upgraded firmware. The screen had not had any glare problems even though I have it in a room with a 30 ceiling and 4 huge windows on that massive wall, floor to ceiling. I have an Ethernet cable hooked into the TV (will get the wireless dongle) and love the info link function, which works flawlessly. The TOC which looks like a glass of cabernet makes the TV an absolute show piece in my family room and really, although it is so subtle, most people who have seen the TV do not notice the color, it just ads an oomph and sleekness that set this TV apart from the rest of the pack. The swivel base is very stu
1000
rdy and doesn’t feel flimsy. I have calibrated my TV. Although it looks great out of the box, it can look even better if you drill down past the standard presets, into the sub menus and the TV can be tweaked down to the smallest details.

This TV does a good job up scaling SD TV, but it really takes your breath away if you have a HD cable/DVR box like we do. No offense, but to buy this TV and only take advantage of SD and not upgrade your cable box (or not eventually invest in Blu Ray and up scaled DVD) is nothing short of a complete waste, as you are not remotely taking advantage of the technology and could save your money and buy a lower resolution or non 120hz less expensive set. Blu Ray on Samsung LN46A650 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV is just beyond description, and for movies, we love the 120hz motion and have not seen one blur or any judder, and have watched T3, Batman Begins and Day After Tomorrow and have not had the dreaded Soap Opera effect, just stunning visuals. That being said, watching any other TV in my house is now an utter disappointment. I am wasting plenty more time watching HDTV and movies as I still can’t believe my eyes every time I turn the TV on it’s =that= amazing. We laughed tonight that even the movie theater will be a disappointment compared to the clarity of our home system.

For frame of reference, I at one time worked for Samsung’s competition and know TVs and technology, and let me tell you this is nothing short of the real deal. If you are one like me to not believe the hype well in this case you can – and it is why it is a top seller. Looks even better at home than in the store. So glad after all the debates on plasma, branding, motion flow, and model we went with Samsung LN46A650 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV. It’s worth the investment for now and the future and it will not disappoint. Get off the fence and just do it your eyes and ears and your home decor will thank you. The best-reviewed TV is just that THE BEST!!!

Compare prices and buy a Samsung LN46A650 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV Now!

The Special Features And Bonuses Of Wanted In Hi Def

The hit movie Wanted in Hi Def Blu Ray is available now for fans to add to their home collections. The movie is based on a comic book series, and is very much like a comic book in a movie form on screen. Wanted has enough blood, vulgarity, and a ton of fun that will give fans a great time while they are watching it.

The premise of the Wanted movie in Hi Def is that an office worker, James McAvoy, is rounded up by actress Angelina Jolie to join a secret society of assassins. The assassins, however, have various superhuman powers, which gives the movie an amusing twist for fun as well as some action and adventure.

Wanted in Hi Def is very much suited to be like its comic book origins, and the movie uses quite a bit of computer generated scenes and tons of special effects. Most of the computer generated work is displayed adequately, although there are a few scenes that do not seem to look very real. The movie is visually enhanced so that the colors are nice and vivid and the picture is very sharp and nice to watch. The film is supposed to be set in Chicago, but some of the scenes were actually filmed in Prague. The setting for the film seems to suit the movie just fine.
The Wanted movie in Hi Def has tons of extra features.

Some of the bonus features focus on the special effects and the computer generation work that went into the movie. Information about how they work the special effects and which scenes are computer generated is fun and very eye opening. There is also a featurette that is about Wanteds transition from the comic book and novel to the Hollywood film, and many fans have said that the featurette is surprisingly very interesting and a refreshing break from the more usual featurettes of movies that are boring, dull, or non engaging all together.

In addition to the special features that are available on the DVD, there are many others that are offered only on the Blu Ray Hi Def version. There is an alternate opening, exclusive U control features, a scene explorer, an assassins profile, My Chat, My Wanted Commentary, My Scenes Sharing, and also a handy picture in picture feature that allows you to access features without interrupting your viewing of Wanted in Hi Def on Blu Ray.

The Three Generations Of Playstations

The PlayStation brand is a line of video game consoles created and developed by Sony Computer Entertainment, occupying the fifth, sixth, and seventh generations. Sony PlayStation currently has released three consoles. These consoles are:

PlayStation
The original PlayStation, released in December 1994, was the first of the ubiquitous PlayStation series of console and hand-held game devices, which has included successor consoles and upgrades including the Net Yaroze, “PSone”, and the PocketStation. By March 31, 2005, the PlayStation and PSone had shipped a combined total of 102.49 million units, becoming the first video game console to reach the 100 million mark. Buy quality second-hand Playstation consoles by visiting an online electronics philippines shop.

PlayStation 2
Released in 2000, 15 months after the Sega Dreamcast and a year before its other competitors, the Microsoft Xbox and the Nintendo GameCube, the PlayStation 2 is part of the sixth generation of video game consoles, and is backwards-compatible with most, if not all, original PlayStation games. It has also been released as a media center configuration and also, like its predecessor, a slimmer redesign. It is the best-selling console to date, having reached over 140 million units in sales as of July 20, 2008. On November 29, 2005, the PS2 became the fastest game console to reach 100 million units shipped, accomplishing the feat within 5 years and 9 months from its launch. This achievement occurred faster than its predecessor, the PlayStation, which took “9 years and 6 months since launch” to reach the same benchmark. Buy and sell Playstation 2s by visiting an online electronics philippines shop.

PlayStation 3
Announced at E3 2005, the PlayStation 3 is the third and current iteration in the series. It was released on November 11, 2006. It competes with the Xbox 360 and the Wii in the seventh generation of video game consoles. It introduces the use of the Sixaxis wireless controller along with other features, such as Blu-ray and being also to see in Full High-definition resolution. The PlayStation 3 comes in 20 GB, 60 GB, 80 GB, 40 GB, and 160 GB which is the current model. As of February 1st, 2009, the PlayStation 3 has sold 21 million units worldwide, according to Sony Computer Entertainment.

Though it was considered as the most anticipated g
1000
aming console of the year, PlayStation 3 received generally unfavorable reviews soon after its launch, with many websites and reviewers criticizing its high price and lack of quality launch games. However, after a series of price revisions, Blu-ray’s victory over HD DVD, and the release of several well received titles, such as Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, the system received better reviews. Buy second-hand yet cheaper PS3s by visiting an online electronics philippines shop.

5 Things You Need To Build Your Own Home Cinema

Before you get a little excited let me first give you a little background on how home cinemas started. It is believed that home theaters become popular in the 1950s during a time when Kodak 8 mm film projector equipment became affordable. The advancement of both audio and video systems also paved way for home cinemas to reach a new paradigm. Below are 5 general categories of equipment, devices or/and other apparatus to create build a home cinema:

Input Device – first things first, you need some sort of player to access your favorite movie. There are many choices – HDTV, Blu-ray, DVD player, VCD player, and you can also use your personal computer or video game systems. Of course each has its own pros and cons.

Processing Device – it usually provides a more enhanced “home cinema” experience by using standalone AV receiver/preamplifier and sound processor for complex sound formats.

Audio Output – most people are contented with 2 speakers and extra subwoofer but you can add more as you desire.

Video Output – your choices include a HDTV display, LCD TV, plasma TV, video projector, rear-projection TV or for those with tight budget, a typical CRT TV can also do the trick.

Atmosphere – the style of the chairs, movie posters, vending machine, specialized furniture, sophisticated or theatrical room interiors or any other ideas you could possibly think that will make you or your guest to actually think and feel they are inside a movie house.

Apparently, the more you want to experience a real cinematic home viewing the more it will cost you. But you don’t really have to buy very expensive devices. You can start one piece at a time. Also remember that it takes true creativity and resourcefulness to put up your very own home cinema.

How To Choose A Lcd Tv And The Difference Between Full Hd And Hd Ready

With so many LCD TV’s in the market place and a massive variety to choose from it can be confusing choosing the right LCD for you.

Here are a few tips that should help you make the right choice when choosing your LCD TV…

1). Find out what your budget is? And what picture quality you are willing to pay for

2). With so many models in the market offering different specifications the price can vary a lot. So be sure to figure out which room you are buying the LCD TV for. The general rule from house to house across the UK is that the best TV will be placed in the living room with smaller LCD TV’s or LCD TV’s with lower specs being used around the house.

3).Once you know what your budget is and where you will be placing the LCD TV its time to have a look at the specifications along with the design and style. The main features to look for in a LCD TV are the picture quality and connectivity. You will get LCD TV’s that come HD ready and also come with Full HD. The difference between the two is the amount of pixels that are available. So you might have heard of the term 1080p and 720p.

Difference between Full HD and HD ready

The truth in the matter is that a 1080p LCD TV will give you the highest picture quality there is, however in order to get this picture quality that true HD 1080p can offer, you will need to have the right equipment that can support it. So what is this equipment that i talk about? To be honest there isn’t a lot of equipment out there that supports 1080p and when talking about screen resolution the average consumer doesn’t have the slightest idea what this means to them.

The difference between HD and full HD is barely noticeable to the average eye, if you ask me they both produce excellent quality images.

To benefit from full HD you will need these 3 things

• HD Plasma or LCD

• Correct leads (HDMI-component video)

• HD Source ( HDTV Tuner, HD Satellite, HD Cable Box, Blu-Ray, HD DVD Player)

The decision is with you, Full HD or HD ready?

Connections/connectivity

The connectivity that LCD’s provide are also very important. LCD’s support many conne
1000
ctions which will allow you to connect all of your equipment to your TV. Connectivity includes HDMI sockets, scart lead sockets, component video and many more. Please keep a look out for an up and coming article about connections and connectivity.

4). In general the majority of LCD TV’s provide more then enough functions and the average consumer will find that the majority of the specifications will never get used. However if you have much equipment that will need connecting to the LCD then go for one that provides many ways of connecting devices up. Normally found under the connectivity section of the LCD details.
